Quick answer: Add your private FamilyBrief calendar link to Skylight as a subscribed calendar URL — in FamilyBrief, open Settings → Calendar → Add to calendar and copy the link under Or paste this link into any calendar app, then add it in Skylight under Sync Calendars → Calendar URL. Your family's events and deadlines then appear on the Skylight display.

The fast version:

  1. In FamilyBrief, open Settings → Calendar → Add to calendar and copy the private calendar link.
  2. In the Skylight app, open My Skylight → Sync Calendars → Sync new calendar → Calendar URL.
  3. Paste the link and save — or, if Skylight won't take it directly, add FamilyBrief to Google, Apple, or Outlook first and connect that account.

Skylight Calendar is built for a shared family display. FamilyBrief is built to turn scattered school, sports, daycare, camp, and activity emails into one organized family schedule. Used together, FamilyBrief can help keep the dates on your Skylight display more complete.

FamilyBrief provides a private calendar link in standard iCalendar format. Skylight supports calendar sync from major calendar providers and also supports subscribing to calendars by standard calendar publication URLs.

Before You Start#

You need:

  • A FamilyBrief account
  • Your private FamilyBrief calendar link
  • Access to the Skylight app or Skylight calendar settings

In FamilyBrief, open your dashboard, go to Settings, then open the Calendar section to find Add to calendar. Copy the private calendar link under Or paste this link into any calendar app.

Add FamilyBrief to Skylight Calendar#

  1. Open the Skylight app or Skylight calendar settings.
  2. Open the My Skylight menu.
  3. Choose Sync Calendars.
  4. Choose Sync new calendar.
  5. Choose Calendar URL.
  6. Paste your private FamilyBrief calendar link.
  7. Save the calendar.
  8. Check your Skylight display for FamilyBrief events.

Skylight's exact wording may vary by app version and account setup. If you do not see the same labels, look for language such as calendar URL, iCal URL, subscribed calendar, external calendar, or internet calendar.

If your Skylight setup does not support adding a private calendar link directly, use an intermediate calendar:

  1. Add FamilyBrief to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook Calendar.
  2. Connect that calendar account to Skylight.
  3. Make sure the FamilyBrief calendar is enabled in the connected calendar list.

This is often the most reliable setup because many family display products are strongest at syncing with major calendar accounts.

What Appears on Skylight#

FamilyBrief publishes dated household items, including:

  • School events
  • Sports practices and games
  • Permission slip deadlines
  • Fee due dates
  • Camp and daycare notices
  • Parent action items with dates

Items without dates will not appear as calendar events. They may still appear in FamilyBrief's weekly brief or dashboard.

Privacy Note#

Your FamilyBrief calendar link is private. Anyone with the link can view the calendar feed. Only add it to calendar services and devices you trust.

If the link is exposed, open FamilyBrief, go to Settings, find Add to calendar, and choose Reset link. Then update Skylight or your connected calendar with the new link.

Troubleshooting#

Why don't I see FamilyBrief events on my Skylight Calendar?#

Check whether Skylight added the calendar directly or through another calendar account. If you connected through Google, Apple, or Outlook, make sure FamilyBrief is visible and enabled there first.

Why do FamilyBrief events show in Google, Apple, or Outlook but not on Skylight?#

Open Skylight's calendar settings and confirm that the connected FamilyBrief calendar is selected for display. Some calendar systems sync a whole account but let you hide individual calendars.

Why are new FamilyBrief events delayed on Skylight?#

FamilyBrief publishes updates to the calendar feed, but each calendar service chooses when to refresh. If you connect through Google, Apple, or Outlook, Skylight may also wait for that service to update first.

Sync FamilyBrief with other calendars#

Why Use FamilyBrief with Skylight?#

Skylight is good for making the family schedule visible at home. FamilyBrief helps fill that schedule from the emails parents already receive: school newsletters, coach notes, daycare notices, camp reminders, and activity updates.

Forward the updates once, then let the calendar feed carry dated items into the family calendar system you already use.
